International
Award Winning Theme Park Style Face Painting
|
Face painting adds a memorable dimension to any gathering, from children’s birthday parties, to family events like reunions and christenings, to school festivals, company picnics and other corporate events and promotions… |
We all have favorite birthdays and special occasions we remember vividly. Why are some events from years gone by indelibly etched in our memories, while others are lost in the shuffle? It comes down to the feelings we experience that make the memories we keep of the truly unique times in our lives... Whether you want to make sure your child's birthday party is packed with memories to last a lifetime, make your company picnic one for the scrapbooks, or create a sensation with your store's open house or business's special event, you can set the day apart in the memory of your guests with top-of-the-line original, award-winning face painting creations! Quality, professional face painting is a proven crowd-pleaser for all ages -- colorful, sure-fire, safe and family-friendly entertainment that builds memories that last! |
| Owner/designer and
principal artist Erin Penney is an international award-winning
professional face painter and make-up artist with a background and
degrees in visual arts. She is a former artist for the company that
recruits and
trains the best face painting entertainers for Disney, Universal
Studio, and
Anheuser-Busch
parks around the world. Her speed and precision in face painting
techniques were honed by this training and experience in painting
thousands of faces from babies to
grandparents at Busch's Sesame Place Theme Park near
Philadelphia. Erin started gaining international recognition as a professional face painting artist and designer in the spring of 2006, creating original face art designs for open competition with the world's leading face painting artists. Within one month of her first submission, her "Wild Webs" design (shown in the gallery above) was selected for inclusion in Snazaroo's Top 100 Faces, an invitation only "Best of" page on the world's leading website for professional face painters. |
| The exotic make-up
designs for Cirque du Soleil performers provided the inspiration for
another international face painting competition. In 2008, Erin's
design above
won second prize among competing artists
from nine states and from around the world representing six other
countries. In early 2009, this design was cited among "The Best of the Best" for 2008, in a field representing professional face painters from 11 countries on four continents. |
| Erin was the only
American face painting artist among
the top
three award winners in a 2007 international face and body art competition that
called for morphing flags into butterfly
wings. "Liberty Butterfly" finished second in a
field of original designs by professional face painters from ten
countries. This design was also cited among "The Best of the Best" for 2007 in a field of competitors from nine states and internationally from nine countries. Erin's "Liberty Butterfly" was also featured in Issue 3 (July 2008) of Face Painting & Body Art Magazine, an international quarterly publication devoted to the highest level of the craft. |

| Choose from a
wide variety of designs (lots more than shown here!), from fantasy faces, to animals, to heroes and more! |

| Ever wanted to just
"try" a tattoo? Temporary tattoos offer all of the cool, none of the pain, blood, or commitment! |
| Paint-on tattoos are
done in face paints and come off when you wash up. Waterproof black "tribal" tattoos and glitter tattoos last several days but remove instantly with alcohol. |
|
BE
SAFE
ALWAYS
ASK what
kind of paint a face painter uses! The "non-toxic" label is not enough
-- common art store craft paints and even some house paints
are labeled "non-toxic" but are NOT safe to use as a cosmetic! Second
Look
Face Painting uses the
highest
quality professional theatrical make-ups in the world --
water-based face paints made under the
strict guidelines of US FDA and European Union regulations and
packed according to rules enforced in the USA and EU to ensure safety.
They are also not tested on animals.Clean up is easy, too -- soap and water does the trick for quality face paints. Baby wipes also work, and are especially convenient for removing designs featuring special cosmetic grade polyester glitter. If desired, our waterproof hand-rendered cosmetic "black tribal tattoos" (shown on the gallery pages) can be immediately removed with alcohol, but otherwise last up to a week. Glitter tattoos are also waterproof, last a few days, and come off with alcohol. |

For very large events, it may be best to arrange for Second Look to bring in additional team face painters to accommodate the most guests at the fastest pace. Please ask about availability and be aware that the longer the lead time for bookings, the more likely your date will be available and special needs can be accommodated. |

| Days after returning
from Iraq, SFC Samuel Weiss of Union County brought his daughter
Cadence to the huge party thrown by the USO of Metropolitan New York at
the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton! Celebrity entertainment and
major media attention were part of the homecoming for the 50th Infantry
Brigade Combat
Team. Nearly 3,000 soldiers strong, the "Jersey Blues" left for
Iraq one year ago, marking the largest deployment of NJ National Guard
troops to a combat zone since WWII, and every one of them is now home! Second Look Face Painting is proud to have been a part of family celebrations for the troops at Fort Dix in the past, and was honored to be a part of the USO entertainment for the homecoming at the arena, with 10,000 soldiers and family members. The stadium-sized party followed a parade of the troops and marching bands through the capital city that culminated in ceremonies and celebrations inside the arena, with a USO stage show hosted by NJ101.5's Big Joe Henry, simulcast statewide on Millennium Radio NJ. Hundreds of children and the young at heart got face paintings and paint-on tattoos, including one mom, shown below sporting a design on her cheek called "Stars and Stripes," named after the real thing she's holding up! Spotted in a stadium packed with thousands of equally joyful moms, kids, siblings, and others, she was the focus of an article that appeared the next day in The Trentonian. |

| Princeton
University's Class of '94 was recently back on campus to celebrate
their fifteen reunion. The alumnus in the top picture brought his
little tiger down from New York for the weekend and stopped by the
Second Look Face Painting booth in the quad at Little
Hall to
get a paw print on his cheek. In the group picture, grandkids of grads
celebrating their 50th reunion joined in the festivities, too! Laurie
and Erin were delighted to return to paint guests of all ages again
this year with special designs in school colors and themes, with plenty
of tigers to go around. |
| The Trenton Public
Schools held a special end of the school year picnic at the grove in
Mercer County Park in West Windsor. Not to be outdone by the students,
the grown-ups waited along with the kids for a turn with a Second Look
Face Painting artist! Teachers, administrators, chaperones, and kids
from every grade kept the painting team busy creating designs like the
flower this administrator picked out, specially rendered in colors to
match her outfit. |
| Diane Stein of the
Princeton Rotary asked the Second Look Face Painting team to be a part
of their club's annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, held on the green
in front of the Nassau Inn over Memorial Day weekend. More than happy
to be a part of the big day, owner/designer Erin
painted the Rotary leader's arm with the
international organization's symbol. Above, Senior Face Painting Artist
Tess holds a mirror up for Diane to check it out! Throughout the event,
music filled the air from the Spirit of Princeton Parade down Nassau
Street, right across Palmer Square. |
"Just a note to tell you how much the children and our guests enjoyed your face painting at baby Charlie's christening. Thank you again for a delightful evening of entertainment for the children!" Virginia T. |
| Azalea Fest is held
each year at Sayen Gardens in Hamilton Square NJ on Mother's Day. This
local grandmother took her grandson out for a stroll in the botanical
gardens and to the Second Look Face Painting booth by the park's main
entrance. Owner/designer Erin customized the Girl Swirl design to
match grandma's dress, while her grandson was turned into a Cool Cat by
Second Look senior team artist, Kelly. |

| Back by popular
request, Erin was able to paint these fellow event volunteers before
the official start of the Mercer County Arthritis Walk, held again this
year at
Princeton Forrestal Village. The drizzly weather didn't dampen the
spirits of those who gathered to support this annual May event, which
helps the Arthritis
Foundation fight the disease that affects over a million and a half
people in this state. For more information on this and other programs
of the organization, visit the New
Jersey
Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. |

"Thank you so much for braving the rain to
come out the Mercer County Arthritis Walk on May 3. Your face painting
looked adorable on all the kids!" Erin Kent |

| A Bollywood style
dance competition brought nearly five hundred dancers out to vie for
top
honors at The
Union County
Performing Arts Center at the historic Rahway Theater. The team above won
the Award for Excellence
in the category of Best Costumes. (Here, as in most awards of this kind, make-up is considered a part of the costume.) Choreographer and costumer Sunrita Mitra called on Erin to create an original three-color make-up design with sparkling touches for her Junior Fusion dancers. The white areas feature a skin-safe cosmetic glitter, and several clear faceted crystal "jewels" were added to each dancer's face as light-catching accents to complete the make-up. |
"Thanks so much for coming to our daughter's birthday party and doing the best face painting we've ever seen! My kids didn't want to wash their faces at bedtime! We took a TON of pictures!" Charlotte's
mom |

| Olivia's fifth birthday this spring was the perfect excuse to throw a supremely fancy soirée, which is French for party (everything is fancier in French). The birthday girl, at the center of the back row, like many of her friends, chose the Mardi Gras from Second Look's extensive design board, which is both a fancy face painting design *and* has a French name. |
| "I
just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful 'beauties' you made for
Olivia's party yesterday. Everyone that I have talked to today
complimented your work and said what a great idea it was for the kids
at the party. Thanks again!" Melanie M. Olivia's mom Hamilton Square, NJ (Mercer County) |

| For Stephanie's
recent Sweet 16 party in Marlboro NJ (Monmouth County), the family's
basement was decked out with blacklights! Second Look
provided UV reactive face and body art including glitter tattoos that
look like hot neon under regular light, and glow brightly under
blacklight. |
| "The children loved it and the parents
couldn't believe the quality and beauty of every face painted. Everyone
was blown away!" Pastor Jim Calloway Graceway Bible Church Hamilton NJ (Mercer County) |

| Among the party
animals at the 40th Annual Henri David Halloween Ball at the Sheraton
Center City in Philadelphia, these ladies enlisted Erin's help to stand
out at an event the New York Times calls "one of the largest and most
lavish costume balls in existence." A group of friends
from New Jersey joined the 2008 festivities as various animals, with
one of them as a zookeeper, and from left to right, a zebra, a peacock,
and a flamingo. |
| "We
were a huge hit at the Halloween Ball!
Everyone wanted to take pictures of us. It was such a fun thing
to do. We are all in agreement that we want you to come and make us
beautiful (or ugly!) again next Halloween!" Brianna Ford Burlington NJ |
| For the
second year in a row, the Second Look Face Painting team was delighted
to entertain the soldiers and their families at the annual
Family
Carnival at the
New Jersey Army Joint Force National Guard Headquarters at Fort Dix.
Above,
a solider sporting the
gladiator look is joined by his family. Thanks again to Major Dowgin
and Sergeant Isales for
the invitation and another opportunity to be a part of a great day! |
"Thank you for a really great job! Everyone was raving about your work. The adults had just as much fun as the kids!" Joshua's mom Freehold NJ (Monmouth County) |
| When Pottery
Barn
Kids
celebrated their grand opening at The
Grove West in Shrewsbury NJ (Monmouth County), Second Look Face
Painting was on hand to
turn guests at the store into tigers, pirates, swans, and more! Above,
these sisters
opted for a blue flower, a Rainbow Fairy, and a Butterfly. |
| "Thank you so much for the wonderful job
you did at Stephen's party! Everyone seemed to really enjoy the face
painting and tattooing. It added a special touch to his special day! I
will definitely keep you in mind for future events. Thanks again!" Susan D. Stephen's mom Hillsborough NJ (Somerset County) |
